Verizon Droid Xyboards To Get Android 4.1 Update

The Motorola Xyboard tablets come in 10.1″ and 8.2″ sizes, both feature identical design language and internal specifications. The 10.1″ has an obviously larger display and a bigger battery. Verizon did launch both of these tablets, but rebranded them as Droid Xyboard 10.1 and Droid Xyboard 8.2. Motorola has updated the status of both Verizon tablets, revealing that they will be receiving Android 4.1 update.

Verizon Launches 32GB Samsung Galaxy S4 For $299.99

We reported back in April that almost half of the on-board storage of 16GB Samsung Galaxy S4 was taken up by apps that the company pre-loaded on it for customers. This effectively left just 8GB of internal storage for customers, these apps included the ChatOn messaging client, S Health, S Travel and more. The work around for this issue is quite simple, Galaxy S4 supports microSD cards of up to 64GB, customers also have the option of purchasing a model that offers greater internal storage. While Samsung did say that it was looking in to freeing up memory on the device through “software optimization.”.

Uniquely Android: Friday

Uniquely Android: Friday

Uniquely Android is a series we started that shines the spotlight on those apps that take advantage of the unique capabilities of the platform and provide an experience that you wouldn't find in most other phones. Previously, we have featured Plug In Launcher, AirDroid, Shush, Llama, Swiftkey 3, SwipePad, Widgetsoid2.x, Unified Remote, AirCalc, WiFi Keyboard, Puzzle Alarm Clock, Notif Mac Remote, Everything.me Launcher, ReadItToMe and AutomateIt. Of all the apps featured so far in the Uniquely Android series, Friday would be my pick as the most ambitious one.

Dual SIM HTC One updated to Android 4.2.2 Jelly Bean. Regular version to follow soon?

The dual SIM version of HTC's One that's available in China is getting an official update to Android 4.2.2 Jelly Bean starting today, June 28. ROM developer LlabTooFeR believes the update for the international version should arrive pretty soon as well. Sure enough, since there's no official confirmation on this, HTC One users in Europe and the US shouldn't get their hopes up just yet.
Meanwhile, the HTC One Nexus Experience - launched in the US a couple of days ago - is running Android 4.2.2 out of the box.

Google Search Field Trial Rolls Out Gmail Contacts Support

Google Search Field Trial Rolls Out Gmail Contacts Support

The last time Google made changes to its field trial, it was testing its capability to search through Gmail and Google Drive through its search results. Those tests look like they've gone well as Google is now rolling out Gmail contact information to search results. Google rolling out this feature for its field trials means if you happen to have signed up to the experimental program, information from your Gmail account will be retrieved when you search for something, which will provide relevant information based on your search.

A couple of days ago, Instagram's CEO announced that they had no plans to bring Instagram onto Blackberry 10 anytime soon. While this might be a bummer for some Blackberry 10 users, for the more resourceful, there's always the unofficial download, and even better news, the latest version of Instagram, version 4.0.2, has been converted into a working .BAR file, meaning that Blackberry 10 users will be able to download the file and side-load it onto their phone.

Kickstarter Expands To Canada This Summer

Kickstarter is one of the biggest crowdfunding websites out there right now. People with interesting ideas and concepts can list them in detail on the site and then can seek pledges from donors, who can be based in any part of the world. However Kickstarter initially only accepted U.S. based projects. Last year it started accepting projects from the U.S. They've announced today that Kickstarter will be expanding to Canada this summer, and will begin accepting projects from there.

They've not reveal any further details as yet.

Facebook Home Gets Folders In The App's Latest Android Beta

Despite the fact that Facebook Home has not been able to gain much traction, with one survey even claiming that as many as 90 percent of U.S. smartphone owners aren't interested in Facebook Home, the world's biggest social network has clearly not abandoned its “people-centric” Android launcher. Its latest group of Android beta testers received a new version of the network's app today, which brings support for folders to Facebook Home. The move comes after Facebook added an app drawer to Home last month.
Its quite easy to create and manage folders on Facebook Home.

It was two years ago when Spotify made the journey across the pond and launched in the U.S., and since then, being one of the most popular streaming-music services around. Since Spotify has been available in the U.S. for the past two years, we think it was about time the company made it their home, which is exactly what was announced earlier today in New York City. Spotify has already established its U.S. headquarters in Chelsea, but today, they announced they've be movin' on up, literally to the east side, as they are moving to 6th Ave.

AIRBOXLAB Monitors Indoor Air Quality

AIRBOXLAB Monitors Indoor Air Quality

I am quite sure by now that everyone more or less know of the forest fires that happen each year in Indonesia that results in a blanket of haze in the vicinity of South East Asia, and Indonesia's neighbors, Singapore and Malaysia, tend to bear the brunt of the haze. We have heard stories of how N95 masks have sold out in no time at all, while opportunists take this chance to make a quick buck from the general populace. If only there was a device out there that could help monitor indoor air quality, and this is where the AIRBOXLAB comes in handy.

Plants vs Zombies 2 delayed until "later this summer"

Another unfortunate delay has hit the gaming world. Plants vs Zombies 2, originally unveiled in early May, was set to come out July 18th, but it seems EA and Popcap aren't confident that the game can be ready by then. The game's release window is now “later this summer.”. A definitive reason wasn't given, of course, but we imagine they need more time to polish things up here and there before its QA checks are satisfactory enough for release. We're not totally mad — we always encourage developers to take as much time as they need to get it right — but it definitely is saddening.

Now we are anxiously awaiting its arrival on Earth as the fundraising campaign went live early this morning. The Kreyos Meteor smartwatch boasts a bunch of features; some we have seen in the first generation of smartwatches, but also some we have never seen in a realistic watch before like a mic and speaker for voice recognition, audio playback… even answering calls from your phone right on your wrist.

Very much so. The Xperia Z Ultra is quickly turning into the most expensive phablet ever made. Maybe its size justifies that. Maybe not, you be the judge.

Anyway, after we found out roughly how much it's going to cost in continental Europe, today our attention turns to the UK. That's where well known mobile device retailer Clove has started taking pre-orders for the Xperia Z Ultra.

Do you think that analysts have a slightly different outlook compared to the rest of us. I suppose the answer would be in the affirmative to a certain extent, otherwise they would not be analysts, would they. Jefferies analyst Peter Misek has a new report which claimed that Apple Inc. will be slashing their iPhone manufacturing orders for the rest of the year.
According to Misek, it seems that the change in Apple's manufacturing plans will see it reduce iPhone orders for the third quarter of 2013 from 40 million-45 million all the way down to 25 million-30 million, which is nearly half the amount less.

DIY Tip: Jack up your tablet's volume with a Styrofoam cup

Gadgeteer reader Gary Henderson sent in a great tip for anyone who wants to increase the volume on their tablet without spending money on portable speakers or other accessories. All you need is a simple paper, plastic or Styrofoam cup and a pair of scissors or a knife. Cut a slot in the cup and then slide it over the speaker area of your device. Gary made it for his iPad, but it should work with most tablets depending on the location of the speakers. It works by the same principle that other non-powered sound amplifiers like the SoundBender, iPad Horn and the ElementCase Vapor Dock use.

It's pretty much expected these days as soon as Apple announces an iPhone, rumors will begin to circulate regarding the next device. The alleged leak comes from Chinese microblogging site Sina Weibo, and while we've already seen what is expected to be the iPhone 5S' front panel, this is the first time we've seen any part of the device on an assembly line.

How weird is it that I was just following up on Ubisoft's Might & Magic Clash of Heroes — announced as “coming soon” to Android back in January — and “poof,” it's now available on Google Play. Priced at $5, players get a near direct-port of a game currently available on Xbox Live Arcade for around $15 — and it looks great. A mix between a fantasy RPG and puzzle game, it makes almost the perfect transition to touch devices. Without hesitation I've already downloaded it to my HTC One and will be following up with a hands-on later tonight.

Jaguar working on 700-hp, 200-mph hybrid F-Type?

After first driving the 2014 Jaguar F-Type in Spain this spring, we came away mighty impressed. Of course, if you had to pin us down for a top three wish list of what improvements we'd like to see, we'd probably hit you with something like: 1) Less weight. 2) Less weight and 3) Less weight. Oh, and if we're feeling presumptuous, maybe some additional transmission choices.
Despite leveraging aluminum for the body and chassis, this Jaguar is still a bit of a fat cat compared to its rival models from Porsche.

Euro car sales hit 20-year low in May

Automotive News Europe reports vehicle registrations in the European Union fell to 1.08 million in May. That's down from 1.15 million a year earlier and marks the lowest number for any May since 1993. General Motors, Peugeot-Citroen, Fiat, Renault, Ford, Volkswagen and Audi all saw sales fall off last month, though Seat managed to increase its sales by a relatively heady 13 percent. Currently, analysts are predicting that the European automotive market will continue to contract through 2013, though may show signs of rebounding by the end of the year.

Moto X phone for US Cellular rolls through the FCC

Moto X phone for US Cellular rolls through the FCC

The Moto X we've been hearing so much about lately seems to be coming to nearly every major carrier in the United States, just like original rumors promised. The device seems to have made its way through the FCC for US Cellular, the nation's fifth largest carrier, under the model number XT1055. This brings the total count up to four so far, with Verizon, Sprint and AT&T all having their versions outed from the same governmental outlet. TCL Idol X has made its way to retail availability in China. The sleek-looking, bright-colored Android smartphone offers a quad-core SoC and 5x1080p display, tucked into a 6.99mm thin body for only 1,699 yuan ($277; €207).
