In a desperate attempt to counter the growing number of smartphone thefts in the U.S., carriers are now working together to introduce databases that will prevent stolen phones from functioning on their networks. It is reported that in 2011 alone, roughly 38 percent of all robberies recorded in Washington were actually smartphone thefts. The condition is much more worse in New York, where more than 40 percent of accounted robberies are considered to be smartphone related. Earlier this year, the U.S. Federal Communications Commission together with a few police chiefs in the U.S.

The carrier recorded a massive $193 million net profit this quarter, $44 million more than it made in Q2, despite losing 312,000 subscribers in the three month period. The reason behind the rosy numbers was a combination of cash-saving exercises and canny investments in securities, pushing total revenue to $1.3 billion. The network now has just under nine million customers, with more than a million of those subscribing to one of the company's LTE packages.

Metal Gear Rising pre-order editions for the UK revealed

Gamers if you were planning on picking up Metal Gear Rising, it seems that Konami has revealed several pre-order editions available for gamers in the UK. We're not sure if these editions will be made available for those living stateside, but until we hear otherwise, it looks like it is only available for the UK market. There will be three pre-order editions available for purchase - the Limited Edition version, the Render Steelbook Edition, and a Shinkawa Edition. Starting with the Limited Edition, this edition will come in a steelbook cover along with a White Raiden figurine which can be posed in different positions.

Sharp may look like it's in trouble, but that's not stopping it bringing new displays to the market, including today's announcement of the AQUOS Quattron 3D XL TV line. We've known for months that HTC intends to upgrade the One X to Jelly Bean, but now it appears the update is finally going live, at least for folks in Taiwan. Members of the XDA Developers forum are chiming in about a 352.87MB OTA update that's available within both HTC's home country and Singapore, which brings Android 4.1.1 and HTC Sense 4+ to the One X. Jelly Bean's appearance for the handset matches an earlier report from Engadget Chinese of an incoming update promised by HTC Taiwan.

Some folks have reported that they have managed to get a closer look at the 32GB version of the NExus 7 at a local Office Depot, where said tablet will still cost far less than the iPad mini at $250 a pop. But whichever aisle I scanned, nowhere was to be found what I had come to buy: a Windows 8 disc for desktop upgraders. It was a faltering start, but it was also strangely symbolic of my mission - namely, to explore what Microsoft's latest operating system can do for regular desktop folk.

Nexus 4 support page goes online

You can more or less feel the LG Nexus 4 right in the palm of your hands now, considering how the device is due for a reveal next Monday. This could very well be the first of many devices that carry the Nexus brand name, and another confirmation that points towards the existence of the LG E960 would be its support page going live on the LG website. This support page is not yet available on every localization of the company's site, the UK and Australian versions do show the existence of such a page if you want to know.

Motorola Droid RAZR X and Motorola Nexus rumored to be in the works

There have been plenty of rumors in the past that suggests that there could be multiple Nexus handsets launching this year, although so far based on the leaks, only LG's Nexus 4 handset has been pictured.
