Sprint and Code Factory team up to deliver free Android accessibility app

Sprint, Boost and Virgin customers heading to the Android Market might notice something new called Wireless Accessibility(really just a rebranding of Mobile Accessibility). The app, designed by Code Factory, normally costs $99, but Sprint has struck a deal to offer it for free to its postpaid subscribers. The software delivers a simplified interface and provides audio prompts in synthesized Spanish and English to aid in navigation.

Samsung Galaxy Ace Plus hands-on (video)

Really, Samsung. The Ace 2, Mini 2, S Advance and now, the Ace Plus. It's a wonder anyone at the company can still keep track. Unfortunately, this particular Android offshoot is a bit of a stinker, saddled with a pitiful 3.65-inch 480 x 320 display that does the opposite of the usual, saturated OLED-impress, offering no other spec distraction from its lower pixel density. Like its aforementioned cousins, the device runs a TouchWiz skin atop Android Gingerbread 2.3.6, powered by a single 1GHz processor that does an acceptable job moving things along without that essential dual-core briskness.

GM buys 7% stake in PSA Peugeot Citroën, creates global platform-sharing alliance

General Motors has finally made a move to help its ailing European operations by tying its fortunes on the continent with those of PSA Peugeot Citroën. The two automakers have agreed to a new global alliance in which GM will buy a seven-percent stake in PSA, thereby making it the European automaker's second largest shareholder behind the Peugeot family itself. The shares won't give GM any governance rights over PSA, and the two companies will remain competitors in Europe.

Ever heard of Tianyu. You probably haven't, but that's why the Chinese manufacturer left most of the heavy PR lifting for its ICS-equipped, quad-core phone to NVIDIA at this year's Mobile World Congress 2012. Details on this Tegra 3-based Android handset are admittedly scarce for the time being, but from what we were able to glean, the 4.3-incher should be able to hold its own in the high-end smartphone market. Aside from an 8 megapixel shooter with single LED flash on its back and the aforementioned CPU clocked at 1.5GHz, there's not much else to divulge spec-wise.In terms of build, the design is a mixed bag.

Hands-on with the Samsung Galaxy S Wi-Fi 4.2 [MWC 2012]

Hands-on with the Samsung Galaxy S Wi-Fi 4.2 [MWC 2012]

Samsung is continuing their line of WiFi-enabled media players with the introduction of the Galaxy S WiFi 4.2. The Galaxy S sans cellular radio was on the show floor here at MWC and we had the opportunity to check it out. Not much has changed since last years 4.7 and 5-inch models — you get Android 2.3 with all the official Google trappings including Android Market access and Google Mobile apps such as Gtalk. You get a 1GHz processor to run the show, a 2MP camera around the rear of the device, and a VGA front facing camera.

Apple and Google sued over ‘Street View' on the iPad

. A Florida firm has filed a claim alleging that Google and Apple are both infringing on its mapping technology, PaidContent reported on Monday. PanoMap Technologies filed the complaint in an Orlando federal court, stating the use of Google Maps "Street View" feature in the iPad and iPhone violates U.S. Patent No. 6,563,529. The patent covers an “interactive system for displaying detailed view and direction in panoramic images." The company wants Apple and Google to pay triple damages, asserting that the two tech giants knew about the patent but had ignored it.

Hands on with Samsung's Galaxy S Blaze 4G for T-Mobile

. Samsung has a number of new devices on hand at this year's Mobile World Congress, and one of them was the Galaxy S Blaze 4G set to launch on T-Mobile later this year. We got a chance to check out the Blaze 4G, and we left relatively unimpressed. To be fair, the Blaze is a lightning-fast smartphone on par with a number of recent additions to Samsung's Galaxy line, but it's hard to get excited over a phone that is only a modest upgrade compared to T-Mobile's current Galaxy S II. The Blaze 4G features a 1.5Ghz Qualcomm Snapdragon chip, a 4-inch Super AMOLED screen, a 5-megapixel camera and Android 2.3.6 Gingerbread.

Sony to bring original content to Playstation Suite, not just ports

. If there is something Sony is strong at, it is their gaming platforms. This is something that didn't take off immediately on the Android platform, after the release PlayStation Suite. The selection of games is limited, and they are all Playstation 1 ports. But according to Sony Mobile's chief marketing officer Steve Walker, this is all about to change.

Sony is making some huge changes as we speak, now that it is in full charge of its mobile division. Great devices like the Sony Xperia U and Sony Xperia P have been announced at MWC.

Samsung Galaxy S Blaze 4G for T-Mobile Hands-on [MWC 2012]

Tucked away inside one of the side events here at Mobile World Congress was T-Mobile's Samsung Galaxy S Blaze 4G. While the device has already been announced, we haven't had a chance to play with it for ourselves until today. It's a nice little mid-range offering that should be perfect for those who want to ease into the smartphone game. The device is thin and light, and unlike a lot of other mid-range phones (Samsung included) it actually looks very good aesthetically. The device's backplate has a premium-feeling mesh finish which transitions into a nice glossy exterior near the top.

This time, it's the company's low-cost Windows Phone entry. The Lumia 610 will purportedly pack a 3.2-inch display and a 3-megapixel camera, with BGR even reckoning that it will arrive with Microsoft's Windows Phone Tango OS, with a price of around 175 euros.

The guts are all NVIDIA, with a Tegra 3 quad-core processor and an Icera HSPA+ modem. The display has 960 x 540 pixels spread over 4.3-inches of real estate, housed in a razor-like 7.8mm-thick (0.31-inch) slab. Remember Panasonic's Eluga. The phone with a name that sounded like you'd eaten too much popcorn before going on a roller coaster now has a bigger brother to protect the family insignia: the Eluga Power. It's a 5-inch (1280 x 720) display-toting premium version of the device running ICS on a 1.5GHz dual-core Qualcomm Snapdragon S4 CPU. The 9.6mm thick device includes a 1,800mAh battery that can reportedly quick-charge to 50 percent in half an hour. It's packing NFC, an 8-megapixel camera as well as an unspecified front-facer for video calls, 8GB storage and a microSD slot - giving you up to 32GB expandable storage.

. We were only able to spend a few minutes with Sony's new Xperia P smartphone as we rushed from Sony's press conference to HTC's press conference on Sunday, and we didn't get any time at all with the Xperia U. Thanks to a slightly lighter event scheduled on Monday, we were able to make it over to Sony's booth and spend some quality time with its new smartphones. These are the first smartphones that will be launched by the new Sony Mobile Communications unit that picks up where Sony Ericsson left off, and to be frank, we're a bit concerned.

Live from Nokia's MWC 2012 press conference!

. In less than one quarter with just two smartphones on the market, Nokia managed to take the top spot among Windows Phone vendors in the fourth quarter of 2011. Microsoft's mobile platform still accounts for just a small fraction of Nokia's smartphone sales, but the Finnish vendor is in the early stages of a transition that will eventually see Symbian devices eliminated from its portfolio. The Lumia 710 and Lumia 800 started things off, and Nokia revealed the Lumia 900 during the Consumer Electronics Show, a flagship device that BGR exclusively reported will launch on AT&T next month at a very aggressive $99.99 price point.
