Intel to power as many as 40 Windows 8 ultrabooks in Q4 starting as low as $699

. Intel (INTC) has big plans for Microsoft's (MSFT) upcoming Windows 8 operating system, according to Netbook News. The chipmaker and its partners are planning to release at leash 40 ultrabooks with touchscreen displays as early as the fourth quarter of 2012. The problem with the current-generation of ultrabooks is the hefty price tags associated with the ultra-slim computers. This will not be the case moving forward, however.

My BMW Remote app ready to Play with Android

Stateside and overseas iOS users with a predilection for remotely controlling high-end German autos have had nearly a half year's worth of smug to lord over their Android counterparts. Not so anymore, as BMW's spreading the love and making its Remote app available now for that Google-led contingent on the Play store. The car maker hasn't updated this iteration with any additional perks, preferring instead to keep the user experience consistent and giving drivers of BMW Assist-enabled vehicles the same ability to remotely lock doors, adjust the A/C, blow the horn or trigger the car's lights from afar.

Samsung still working on an 11-inch tablet, may release it this year

Samsung is still working hard on an 11-inch tablet. This has been revealed through documents that the Korean company has shared with the court in the lawsuit in which it's being accused by Apple of patent infringement in California. The first time we heard about such a gigantic device was in December of last year, when rumor had it that the new tablet would be unveiled during MWC in February. That didn't happen, but, we now learn, not because Samsung cancelled the project. It just got pushed back by a few months.

Low-cost tablets are a dime a dozen in the Android world, what with no name offerings from Ainovo to budget stalwarts like Archos. But there's always room for more competition and Energy Sistem seems intent on elbowing its way to a prominent place at the bottom. A mild update to its existing slate lineup, the Energy Tablet i8 keeps the same 8-inch LCD display and 1,024 x 768 resolution (in 4:3 aspect ratio) of its Gingerbread-baked predecessors, but this time packages it with Ice Cream Sandwich onboard.

The first live Super Hi-Vision broadcast for public consumption was of the Olympic opening ceremony in London last week. We didn't get to see that premiere, or the second or third screenings either - but the fourth. Oh yes. We grabbed a seat right up front of a small theater inside BBC Broadcasting House, watched a live 33-megapixel feed from the Aquatics Center and absorbed some very fond memories in the process.

As we've seen, there will be no shortage of tablet / laptop hybrids on offer when Windows 8 starts shipping this fall. But since those keyboard docks will typically be sold separately, that means you're also about to see loads of third-party alternatives. Not to be left out, Microsoft just announced a Bluetooth mobile keyboard along with its smallest-ever mouse – both of which can be used with any Windows tablet. Starting with that Wedge Mobile Keyboard, it resembles Zaggmate's iPad case from 2010, in that it has a hard case to make it more travel-resilient.

All we know is, Samsung has a keen eye for the future of the tablet market, and their tablet roadmap pointed towards a new 11.8-inch tablet that is slated for a release this year, where it has been slapped with a P10 nickname. The display is what we are interested in, where it sports a resolution count of 2,560 x 1,600 pixels, which are massive – clearly placing it in the realm of Retina-like Display crowds.

RIM has been toying with a 10-inch tablet for quite some time, and the project was reportedly sidelined last year as focused shifted to the struggling vendor's next-generation BlackBerry 10 smartphones. Recent rumors suggest the larger PlayBook has been resurrected, however, and will debut some time next year. Owners and stakeholders of Big Media have thick skins. So the persistent trending of #NBCFail, and the riotous reading that the tweet stream provides, is probably bouncing right off their leathery hides. For one thing, the complaints were surely foreseen. They are largely the same criticisms NBC withstood in previous Olympics - over-curating, ill-placed commercials, tape delays, scandalously inane commentary, and a generally inferior Olympics presentation compared to other countries. The unspoken shrugging answer, of course, is financial.

Interestingly enough, it looks like one rumored release date for T-Mobile's Samsung Galaxy Note was true after all. The magenta carrier just announced that the phone / tablet hybrid device (let's just call it a phablet) will become available on August 8. It's not cheap, though. You'll need to pony up no less than $249.99 for the privilege of getting a phablet that will only be ‘current' for a couple of months tops – since its successor, the Galaxy Note 2, is expected to be unveiled next month. Furthermore, that price is after a $50 mail-in rebate.

Of course, TMo also has the ‘value' plans.

Add to this the fact that the sum cost of modern gadgetry regularly runs into the thousands and you begin to realise that specifically tailored student insurance is a necessity rather than an option. Students, more often than not, won't be covered by schemes in their parent's names.

Apple wins stay on having to post 'Samsung did not copy' notice

Apple's pride can stay intact for at least a little while longer: the company successfully won a stay on a UK ruling that would have it post notices clearing Samsung's name in the wake of the two tech giants' patent dispute in the country. Apple now won't have to face any kind of public flogging unless it loses an appeal on the non-infringement verdict, which is due to be heard in October. Not surprisingly, the iPad creator doesn't want its own site to become a billboard promoting someone else's work.

How would you change the Droid RAZR Maxx?

A common topic of discussion at Engadget towers is our editors love-hate relationship with Motorola's Droid RAZR Maxx. The 8.9mm smartphone is beautifully slender, but it's seriously hampered by a lackluster display, weak camera and the company's gaudy skinning of Android. However, it has one saving grace that means it's the go-to phone for more than one of the team here: its Battery. That 3,300mAh juice pack outlasts nearly every other smartphone in the pantheon, which makes it essential for long journeys or trade shows.

It's only a short logical leap from that to Twitter providing the content itself, and that's exactly what AdWeek claims may well happen. Its unconfirmed tipsters have the microblog taking a page from YouTube by pitching Hollywood movie and TV studios on "several" original shows that would live in followers' feeds, including the seemingly inescapable reality show. While Twitter wouldn't have someone in the director's chair, it might still play a role by letting viewers affect the show as it's happening - and of course, running ads.
